The United States Conference of Mayors and Novelis Inc. are
pleased to announce that the enrollment period for the Cans for Cash City
Recycling Challenge is now open! There a
number of significant changes to the Challenge for 2012:
This year there will be two competition categories – Most
Cans Collected, and Most Innovative Ideas.
(Communities that previously competed in the old “Most Innovative
Partnership with Keep America Beautiful” category are fully eligible to compete
in the Most Innovative Ideas category.)
The top prize is now
$25,000 for first place each category – more than FIVE TIMES the cash award given
to any single city in previous years.
Second place winners in each category will receive $15,000, and third
place winners will receive $5,000.
Single stream recycling cities can now participate in the Most
Cans Collected category. Just submit a
copy of your city’s third party audit or other acceptable documentation. (If you have any questions about what
constitutes valid documentation, please contact us.)
For the first time in 2012, cities will be able to submit
their applications and supporting documentation online.
